Havoc caused by cultists to innocents victims in Nigeria cannot be over emphasized except government seriously mean business to enact a strict law that condemns cultism and their cohorts no matter the position anybody owns in the society irrespective of any caliber or person,

one Mr. Adedayo Ibrahim Bello narrated his experience with our correspondent last week that some group of boys attacked him in his uncle’s resident sometimes in April 2019 at about 11.30 pm,

while he was deeply asleep they broke into the house, this making the second attempts in the last two years, we gathered that his uncle Mr. Adegboyega Bello, was also attacked in this same residence 3 years ago , he explained that these boys forcefully broke into the apartment, according to him he said they thought it was his uncle that still lives in the apartment on that faithful day because they asked him rhetorically that if he was Mr. Bello, that made him realize that they were actually after Mr. Bello the owner of the house which is his uncle .

The big question is, for how long should we continue to be living in an unsecured life in this country, life and properties were not safe, there were many instances that many innocent people were victims as a result of this notorious activities, tracing back the history of cultism in Nigeria began from tertiary institutions in the early 50s and they exist in a very insignificant size of population but now, virtually no Institute of higher learning that does not have cults, in 1994, there was a terrible incident of genocide in Obafemi Awolowo University, when the struck of the cults claimed the student union president’s life (Akinbamidele Akintola’s) popular known as ‘Africa’ alongside with some other students union executives simply because student union government did not tolerate the activities then, we heard of a man who was a resident in south Africa and came on holiday in Nigeria , he probably had a face off long time when he was in Nigeria before he fled, we gathered he was killed in Osogbo on his visit to Nigeria in 2017, he would have thought probably has been forgotten unfortunately he was killed. Virtually no place in Nigeria that does not have a wind of taste in this unpleasant scenario in one way or the other however, this activities was not limited to Higher institutions alone, we found out that the activities has recently extended to factories and high schools in Nigeria where teenagers were being recruited to one faction or the other , among the notables cults group are “Aye”, “Black Axe”, “Bucca” “eiye” and so on, the most terrific thing among this group was they have clashes every now and then fighting for supremacy, killing one another like a playing match whenever this occur, the innocents tends to suffers along side. Recently the situations in the country is taking a new dimension where different set of cultists had sprang up in different ways, the Okija Saga in the east, Soka in Ibadan and the Badoo in Ikorodu alongside with “Aye””Eiye” to mention but few. For the past five years in Ikorodu, it has been another black spot of cultism, different set of cultists came up and terrorizing the whole of the community and it’s environ that puts everyone in Pandemonium and great fear. Despite all efforts of security agencies like Oyaabo, Vigilante and Law enforcement operatives, it was still apparently difficult to control them because their criminal activities and operations were like guerrilla warfare.

They operate like syndicates and a serious interpolation one never can tell where, when and how they would strike and who their next target would be. They gained more ground to the point that whosoever disturbed or try to tackle them would definitely fall to their wrath. According to Mr. Adedayo he said his uncle was a community leader who had a zero tolerance to criminal activities, by his waging a serious war against cultism his efforts to curtail the notorious activities brought about some of these criminals apprehended and this made him suffered a lot in this criminals hands, if he didn’t run away the worst could have happened, he escaped narrowly on the attack by being rescued from the intervention of the security operatives in 2016,yet he was still being traced to his hideout thereafter before he completely fled off .Recently, in Ikorodu Lagos state, five people have been killed in a supremacy fight between suspected members of the Eiye and Aiye cults in the Ikorodu Local Government Area of Lagos State.

Residents, who spoke to our correspondents during visits to scenes of the attacks, identified the victims as Oladipupo Bamitogba, Yosi, Ibrahim Abiodun, Sesan and Rasak Busari, aka Aro. Some residents claimed that two of the victims, Bamitogba and Yosi, were not cultists, adding that they were only victims of circumstances. A witness, Lateef Abdullahi, said Bamitogba, an accountant, was shot and cut with machetes around Adaraloye area of Ikorodu on Monday, May 6, 2019. He explained that the victim died after running out of oxygen when the ambulance conveying him to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, ran into gridlock. Another witness, Saliu Balogun, said Yosi was killed when the hoodlums who stormed the Isele area around 9pm last Sunday missed their target. He said, “Around 9.30pm, the cult members came to kill one of their opponents. When they got to the area, they opened fire on the target. The target escaped, but bullets hit Yosi and another man. They ran after the target. When they could not get him, they returned to where Yosi was lying down and stabbed him. He died at the Ikorodu General Hospital, but the other victim survived.” Despite all government frown at these activities of this cult gangs, one would be surprised that some of the prominent people in the society are the ones sponsoring this cult gangs which gave them power and backups to do and undo to their wish and desires to cause terror among the community at large. This has proven that the town and country is no longer save for every eviction this cult members have to deal with because their operations has spread all over the country and their identity has not being known directly because of their syndicate ways of operations till date.
