Scores have been reportedly killed in a fuel tanker explosion at the Amoke village of Apa Local Government Area in Benue State.

The Association of Nigerian Chartered Architects (ANCA) on Sunday called for the establishment of three committees to probe the Ikoyi building collapse.

The ANCA wants judicial, political, and technical panels to unearth the causes of the 21-storey collapse at 20 Gerrard Road last Monday.

The President, Moyosore Omatsone, and National Secretary, Adekoyejo Jolaoso, issued a joint statement on Sunday.

The architects commended Lagos Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu for setting up an investigative tribunal. The team has 30 days to complete its assignment.

ANCA, however, noted that the magnitude and wide implications of the incident warrant that a three-legged inquiry is envisaged.

The group said a political probe would help government make informed decisions after getting details on approvals, supervision, and regulations.

“A Technical Probe, which should be carefully set up with all technical personnel in the building, construction, and property industries.

“This panel should be given enough to address a myriad of technical issues involved in such a complex development”, it stated.

The body stressed the need for a technical panel to study the original brief for the project and its design.

ANCA queried the projected lifespan of the structure which would have been inhabited by occupants whose presence would have increased load on the tower.

The experts queried the withdrawal of the structural engineer midway and the quality of construction materials considering Lagos environmental factors.

The statement added that the Judicial Probe or Corona’s Inquest should be reserved for the last stage, warning against unnecessary injunctions and delays.
