I became an active politician and joined the APC in 2015. As at then, some churches decided to take a more active role in Politics and started encouraging us all to get involved in politics because it was felt that the leaders in the country lacked direction so the Christians have to get involved with politics to change the wrong directions right. We were also encouraged by the better role the vice president was playing and how effective he was and the people thought that his spiritual life made a difference on his mandate. So, I became an active member at Egbeda local government where one Mrs. Femi Aliu who later became the vice chairman at the Egbeda LG was a member of my church and we were very close. She was the vice during regime of Mr. Akeem Akintunde who was the then chairman.

My wife contested at the primaries against other candidates as state Honourable at the Legendary local government (House of representative). Taiwo Akintola’s eventually became the rep for the Egbeda and Onara local government at the federal level. It was during the primaries my wife died when they went for a campaign at Egbeda Oluwo in 2015 when they were attacked and she was seriously injured but later succumbed to her injuries.

During that time I was to context for the position of Councilor. They consider how active I was in Politics and how I was mobilizing people. I was always at the meetings and played an active role in the meetings at my ward, so that have them the courage and faith to recommend me to be the next councilor.

A lot of people were offering me support at the time but the PDP members started to give me problems. Whenever we were to have meetings and campaigns, they will send political touts to come and raid the places and cause disruption. Then, I started hearing that they were trying to kill me because they felt that I had enough grass root support to win the election. It was in the midst of these preparations to local government elections that a friend invited me over to USA to visit with him and I applied for a visa. I was eventually granted the visa. I could not travel then in February 2018 as other problems started

On Friday 11th of May 2018, we had our ward congress election. The local government congress was set to take place the following day. I was with our party members when a fright started between two different fractions of a party. The fight was started by some fractions supporting the previous chairman. I was attacked with cutlass and other dangerous weapons. I was beaten up, stabbed and my clothes were torn. At a point, someone got a tire and put on me for me to be burnt to harsh. It was the intervention of some other party members that saved me. It was a serious riot between the APC and PDP that claim life’s and injured many all in the name of they don’t want a certain candidate and the one they want should be voted for and must win. So the fight and riot went very serious in Oyo state that period of time.

The Councilor election was postponed for a week. Our congress was postponed in many places following various attacks and many members were been suspended indefinitely for anti-party activities. After that, the party sidelined me and did not allow me to contest on the party platform. They presented another candidate. I tried to challenge to process by which she was presented and then I was told that the party leaders are arranging to have me arrested. Another party member (Pastor Adebowale) spoke to me on why I was targeted for the May 11 attack and why I was sidelined. He said that it was in my interest to run away. He was the one who mentioned that I was rumoured to be gay and had been reported to the party that I am a gay and that the party is set to deal with me as a gay person. I started to suspect that Taiwo Akintola’s and some other party members were involved in this. That was when I flew from Nigeria and went to the United States of America.
